Books and
Beyond
Books and Beyond is a unique reading
class in the St. Marys Middle School. Those enrolled in Books and Beyond may
have the opportunity of being in the class for two semesters. The class is
designed for sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. It is a class
where students will use their reading skills to explore
what is beyond the written word. Modeled and independent reading, individualized software, as well
as other materials are used in the class to differentiate instruction. Students
who are chosen for the class will explore reading through a variety of learning
activities which are designed to raise reading achievement.
Program
Goals
The goals
of the Books and Beyond Program are for all students to enjoy
reading, be able to make good independent choices of books read from a variety
of genres, and become life long readers and learners.
The
Class
The Books and Beyond Class provides a clear instructional path for
whole - and
small-group activities. Students are provided instruction in reading
comprehension, vocabulary, fluency, word study, spelling, and writing skills.
The classroom is a special place for reading, learning, and sharing ideas.
